Rewriting Girls’ Futures This Christmas
Christmas is a season of sharing blessings and hope. Yet in these overcrowded slums, poverty drives families to marry off their daughters early, stripping them of their most basic safety and dignity. Globally, over 12 million girls are married before the age of 18 each year. Bangladesh has one of Asia’s highest rates of child marriage. I learned that many parents, desperate to ease financial strain, sacrifice their daughters’ futures. This deprives girls of education, trapping them in a cycle of dropping out, early pregnancy, and violence.
In one Bangladeshi slum, nearly 200 people from 30 households share just three toilets and a single shower stall, only covered by a tattered cloth. Girls have no privacy; they rush through washes fully clothed, gripped by fear. Something as simple as education—or the dignity of bathing safely—is not guaranteed.

Construction of Safe Bathing Space in a Slum
Donate HK$5,000 - With the support from 7 additional donors, construct 1 safe bathing space with a boundary wall and roof, light, door lock and safe drinking water facilities, benefitting at least 15 households in a slum in Bangladesh in the long run.
The first 200 new donors with a one-off donation of HK$100 or above will receive a Plan International Hong Kong “Promise of Equality” Bracelet.

Plan International will allocate donations for designated projects in accordance with the donor’s intent. However, when the designated project is fully funded, additional donations will be used where needed most for more efficient use of resources without prior notice.
