Tai Po Fire Emergency Relief - Provide Learning and Psychosocial Support for Children

On November 26, a five-alarm fire broke out at Tai Po Wang Fuk Court, causing severe casualties. Plan International Hong Kong extends its deepest condolences to the affected families.

Plan International Hong Kong is deeply concerned about the impact of disasters on children. Affected children not only witnessed the destruction of their homes and lost cherished toys, books, clothing, and school supplies, but may also suffer the immense trauma of losing relatives and friends. Their familiar daily routines are disrupted, leaving them in a state of insecurity and instability, and making them vulnerable to anxiety, insomnia, and other emotional distress.

Thanks to the generosity of donors, we have provided Immediate Cash Assistance of HK$2,000 each to over 300 affected students, and nearly 2,200 “Stress Relief Packs” have been distributed to reach children aged 3–6 and their families in Tai Po, to help children release stress and overcome this difficult period.
Infants and their caregivers are also a priority for Plan International Hong Kong. We have prepared 200 specialised packs for children aged 0–3, which will be distributed to provide emotional comfort and reassurance.
Our staff will visit kindergartens in the affected area to run therapeutic emotional-support workshops. Through guided activities such as clay modelling and storytelling, children can safely express their feelings and begin to release pent-up anxiety. During the workshops, we will carefully observe each child’s emotional state and identify early those who may need longer-term psychological support and arrange appropriate follow-up care for them.

“Stress Relief Packs” includes colouring pens, plush toys, and uplifting message cards, along with our promptly compiled “Parent-Child Stress Relief leaflet” and “Caregiver Emotional Support Tips”, designed to help children release stress and overcome this difficult period through drawing and play.

Plan International has extensive experience in supporting children affected by disasters. During the Ukraine crisis, the Gaza humanitarian crisis, and the Myanmar earthquake, we provided psychosocial and education support to help children continue their education, ease the trauma, and gradually regain a sense of safety and normalcy.

Your support is critical in helping the affected, we hope you can lend a helping hand to them.

Plan International Hong Kong will not deduct any administrative fees from this emergency relief project, ensuring that every dollar donated achieves its maximum impact and helps the affected.
